Your Go Goodwins Manchester Storm welcome Gardiner Conference rivals, the Braehead Clan to the Storm Shelter on Saturday for a 7pm faceoff, only a week since the last game between the two sides.

The Storm are coming into the weekends games in strong form, coming off the back of a 4-point weekend. Last Saturday’s victory in Braehead came courtesy of two Darian Dziurzynski goals and a strong defensive performance, restricting the Clan to a solitary goal. This was followed up by an excellent home performance against the Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup. Goals from Cartier, Trabucco and Prince were enough to see off the Blaze, 3-1 the final score. Storm netminder Mike Clemente had another strong weekend, turning away 69 of 71 shots, whilst Storm goals came from each of the 3 forward lines highlighting the scoring depth present in this squad.

In last weekend’s tight game between the two teams, Clan captain Matt Keith scored the only Braehead goal, showing great skill to score past Clemente. The Clan then went to Edinburgh to face the Capitals the following night in what was another tight game the Caps won in OT. The two clubs met again on Wednesday, this time in Braehead, where goals from Cowick and McKenzie were not enough to prevent a 3-2 Edinburgh victory.

The last 3 games have highlighted the strength that the Clan have at the back end, allowing only 8 goals. Netminder Michal Zajkowski is very experienced, and is helped out by the brawn of Carlson, Hendrikx, and Wharton. The Clan also have excellent British depth, with McKenzie, Boyd, and Haywood being strong on the forecheck, whilst GB international Craig Peacock is a danger every night.

Last weekend’s game proved to be a tight, nervy game with a nail-biting finish, and both teams will be going hard for the victory and pick up 2 vital Elite League points

One to watch: Captain Matt Keith always leads the Clan by example, an all-action forward who is skillful with the puck but not afraid to get stuck in physically.
