It has been another great weekend for the Storm Academy with more of our teams getting their seasons underway. The youngest and the oldest players in our system were all in action on Saturday as the U18s and U9s both began their campaigns.

Josh Ellis and Jake Henry both scored in a 4-2 defeat by Deeside, Sam Jones collected two assists as well. The under 9s had the rude awakening of a trip to Whitley Bay for a mini cross-ice tournament. They faced, Billingham, Whitley Bay and Kingston and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. At that level the scores and scorers are not kept, but safe to say the Storm Academy were very competitive and most importantly got plenty of game time. Four players made their hockey debuts in Emmi Kariainnen, Alice Sommerford, Jenson Longworth and Ryan Ambler all played in their first ever game.

The under 13s were also in Whitley Bay, on Sunday they skated to their first victory of the season, an impressive 17-1 win, a great victory to kick off the season. They amassed a huge 66 shots on goal and looked really good in process. The scoring was spread with seven players scoring two goals.

The 13sII’s played against a depleted Blackburn team and they collected their second win of the season, an 11-6 victory. Josh Crawley led the way with five goals, while spirit of the game went to Liam Eaton who scored his first ever goal. Liam began playing midway through last season, but signed after deadline day so this is only his second weekend of playing properly.

To wrap things up the u15s put in an improved performance, but were beaten 5-1 by Kingston. Hugo Cooper who is playing his first season of U15s hockey was given the spirit of the game and head coach Adam Dadswell praised the players puck movement and effort throughout the three periods.

One final bit of news is that U15s goalie Bayley Hodkinson has been invited to take part in England trials. This is a huge achievement for Bayley and everyone at the club is really proud that he has been asked to show what he can do.
