Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm round out their Scottish weekend with a trip to Murrayfield to face the Edinburgh Capitals in a 6:00 pm faceoff.

The sides had contrasting fortunes last night, as the Capitals faced the in-form Fife Flyers, who extended their 7-game winning streak with a 6-1 victory over the Caps, and the Storm overcame the Braehead Clan 5-2 to extend the gap between them and the Glasgow side and keep pressure on the sides above them. Edinburgh’s sole goal came from Pavel Vorobyev, assisted by Anderson and Cazzola, in a tough night for the Capitals, who have struggled recently in Kirkcaldy. Storm’s win last night came courtesy of a third period blitz, after a close first two periods. With no scoring in the first, Storm got on the board through Chris Auger on the powerplay, his first goal since returning from injury. Matt Beca added to end the second period 2-2, before final period goals from Dallas Ehrhardt, and two from Luke Moffatt in a period where the Storm restricted the Clan to just 3 shots. Mike Clemente made 18 saves in the Storm net, as the defence did a good job in keeping the Clan shot total down.

As a result of Saturday’s game, the Storm move two points ahead of the Panthers and sit in sixth place, 11 points ahead of the Clan in the final playoff spot and just 3 points off third-placed Fife. This is the final meeting between the Caps and the Storm this season, with Manchester winning the previous three. The last time the sides met in Murrayfield was in mid-October, when the Storm triumphed 3-1. Goals from Dane Byers, Luke Moffatt, and Shane Bakker were enough to overcome the Capitals, as Dylan Anderson scored the solitary marker for the Edinburgh side. This was followed up by two heavy victories in Altrincham, 9-0 and 7-1 as the Capitals struggled for form. Dane Byers has top-scored for the Storm in those games, scoring 6 and assisting on 1. The Capitals have undergone a lot of change since these games, with Mike D’Orazio taking over the head coach role, and the club signing Ainars Podzins, Tyler Beskorowany, and Patrik Moisio who joined after a short stint in Coventry. Although wins have eluded them, the Capitals look a lot stronger than they were the last time the teams met.

One to watch: Tyler Beskorowany is a former DEL goalie of the year and ECHL and OHL all-star. Drafted in the second round by the Dallas Stars in 2008, the Ontario-native joined after missing a season and a half through injury.
